Al-Hamra Storage and Recharge Dams

Wilayat Al Hamra sits in the foothills of the Al Hajar range, where seasonal rainfall runs off largely uncaptured. The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries Wealth and Water Resources programmed a series of storage and recharge dams to hold that runoff, recharge the aquifers and support groundwater-dependent communities.

Libanconsult delivered the feasibility study, detailed design and tender documents for the Ministry, taking the programme from site selection and hydrology through to tender-ready documentation.

The programme covers three recharge dams and several small storage dams, together with 5 km of flood protection for a future residential area on the edge of Wadi Al Ghul. Scope ran from topographic and geological survey, geotechnical investigation and catchment hydrology through site selection and sizing, preliminary and detailed design, environmental and social impact studies, bill of quantities and full tender documentation.

The Ministry holds a construction-ready programme of recharge and storage structures serving Oman's aquifer recharge and drought resilience objectives in the mountain interior.
