Buraimi Engineered Landfill

The Governorate of Al Buraimi needed a purpose-built engineered landfill to replace uncontrolled disposal and meet the standards set by Be'ah, Oman's national environmental services company, over a multi-decade operating horizon.

Libanconsult delivered the detailed design between 2014 and 2015, covering all civil, electrical, mechanical and architectural execution drawings, technical documents, bills of quantities and specifications.

The facility occupies 216,000 m2 with a total capacity of 2,470,120 m3, of which Phase I provides 500,369 m3, and is designed for a throughput of 150 T/day. It includes leachate extraction and collection with two 2,500 m3 leachate ponds. Design calculations covered waste capacity, leachate and biogas generation, slope and embankment stability, structural requirements and geological conditions.

Be'ah received a fully documented, tender-ready facility providing Al Buraimi with 2.47 Mm3 of engineered disposal capacity.
