Corso Sanitary Landfill

The Wilaya of Boumerdes, east of Algiers, had no engineered waste disposal facility for its growing population and industrial base. The Corso Sanitary Landfill was developed to close that gap with a durable, environmentally compliant solution for municipal solid waste across the wilaya.

Libanconsult prepared the site-selection research and detailed study between 2006 and 2007, then supervised construction, control and monitoring from 2009 through 2021 under the Ministry of Urban Planning and Environment, carrying responsibility for quality, schedule and environmental compliance through to operator handover.

The facility comprises a first cell of 2.5 Mt capacity, 10 ha of VLDPE geomembrane and geotextile waterproofing, drainage networks, sorting units rated at 600 T/day, a leachate storage basin, a reverse-osmosis leachate treatment plant producing 80 m3/day of permeate, a weighbridge, a life base and supporting site infrastructure.

Corso became the anchor disposal facility for the Wilaya of Boumerdes, replacing scattered uncontrolled dumping with 2.5 Mt of engineered, monitored capacity.
