Kahramanmaras Northern Districts Waste Management

Turkey's Municipal Services Improvement Project targets water, wastewater and solid waste services in municipalities across five provinces that absorbed significant population growth from refugee arrivals. Kahramanmaras Metropolitan Municipality holds the solid waste investment programme for its northern districts.

Libanconsult has supported the project since 2021 with design review, bidding documents and construction supervision. Design is complete; procurement and construction supervision are ongoing.

Scope covers review of the existing detailed design, preparation of missing design elements, tender documents, procurement assistance and construction supervision. The principal asset is the Afsin Landfill, with an 80,757 m2 storage area (Lot 1), 4,601,393 m3 of total storage volume and a throughput of 107,852 tons a year, alongside associated investments across the northern districts.

The northern districts of Kahramanmaras are gaining engineered landfill capacity sized to refugee-driven waste loads and built to European standards.
