Karaoun and Joub Jannine Irrigation Networks

The Karaoun and Joub Jannine areas of the Western Bekaa form one of Lebanon's core irrigated agricultural zones, anchored by the Qaraoun reservoir. The Council for Development and Reconstruction programmed new irrigation networks to expand and modernise delivery, with BUTEC SAL as contractor.

Libanconsult delivered the detailed design of the three networks in 2008 for BUTEC SAL under the CDR programme, covering hydraulic design, pipework sizing, civil works and integration with the surrounding pumping and conveyance infrastructure.

The Karaoun 1 and Karaoun 2 networks total 50 km between DN 100 and DN 700, of which 14 km runs at DN 600 to DN 700. The Joub Jannine network totals 60 km between DN 150 and DN 900, of which 32 km runs at DN 600 to DN 900.

The three networks added 110 km of irrigation main to the Western Bekaa, fed by the Joub Jannine pumping and regulation works designed in parallel.
