Kayale Dump Closure and Rehabilitation

The Kayale dump near Baalbeck served the city and surrounding municipalities without any engineered environmental controls, and was identified for closure under Region 1A of the national Solid Waste Environmental Management Project.

Libanconsult delivered the closure design in 2003 for the Council for Development and Reconstruction.

Scope covered detailed closure and rehabilitation design for the dump, the biogas capture and treatment approach, and the partial waste transfer strategy needed to reduce the landfilled volume by moving material to a new sanitary landfill.

CDR gained a specific, engineering-led closure plan for Kayale, part of the wider Region 1A transition from uncontrolled dumping to sanitary landfilling.
