Kitchener Drain Solid Waste Management

The Kitchener Drain corridor crosses three Nile Delta governorates and is home to more than seven million people, many without adequate waste collection or disposal. The solid waste component sits inside a larger depollution programme covering wastewater, sanitation and drain infrastructure - the first Egyptian programme to tackle multiple pollution sources in parallel.

Libanconsult has provided PIU support, engineering design review and construction supervision since 2021 under the Ministry of Local Development, with design complete and execution continuing.

On the institutional side, the team established PIU operating procedures, financial and technical reporting and capacity building. On the works side, it supervises integrated SWM investments - transfer stations, sanitary landfills, sorting and composting facilities and collection upgrades - across eleven districts in the three governorates.

The programme is improving waste services for over seven million people while cutting pollution loads reaching the Kitchener Drain itself.
