Oued Smar Urban Park Irrigation System

The Oued Smar site in Algiers was an urban landfill before it was rehabilitated and converted into a public park. Keeping that park alive requires an irrigation system that can draw on several water sources without interruption, use water sparingly, and above all avoid recontaminating the remediated ground beneath it.

Libanconsult is delivering the irrigation study and analysis for EPIC-CEGETAL from 2025, working on a site whose rehabilitation the firm supervised - so the capping and drainage constraints are known rather than inferred.

Scope covers analysis of the available water supply sources, hydraulic design of the three irrigation systems serving the park, optimisation of consumption through pressurised delivery and smart controls, environmental protection measures to prevent recontamination of the remediated substrate, and the technical planning required for continuous operation, integrated with the park's wider landscape strategy.

The park will be watered by a system designed around the landfill sealed beneath it - keeping the green space viable without compromising the remediation.
