Waste Management Plans for Lebanon's Coastal Municipalities
The ReMaL project, funded by Germany's Federal Ministry for the Environment and executed by UN-Habitat, works to cut marine litter in Lebanon by helping coastal Unions of Municipalities and national government implement Integrated Solid Waste Management Law No. 80 (2018).
Libanconsult has delivered three parallel lots of Local Operational Master Plans for UN-Habitat since 2024: Lot 1 covering the North 1 and North 3 service zones, Lot 2 covering Baabda and Keserwan-Jbeil, and Lot 3 covering Saida-Jezzine and Aley-Chouf.
Each lot covers desk review, an overall assessment of solid waste management in the targeted service zones, a Cost Recovery Plan for integrated SWM per zone, awareness and communication messaging, and a monitoring and evaluation plan.
Seven service zones gain operational plans aligned to Lebanon's ISWM Law, each with validated cost-recovery and M&E frameworks, targeting the land-based sources of marine litter directly.
