National Slaughterhouse Waste Treatment Programme

Lebanon generates roughly 60,000 tons of slaughterhouse waste a year, and with no dedicated collection or treatment it is mixed into the municipal stream - cutting recycling potential, contaminating municipal waste and creating public health risk. The EU-UNDP TaDWIR programme targets this gap directly.

Libanconsult delivered the National Slaughterhouse Waste Baseline and Masterplan (2023-2024) and is now executing the follow-on design assignment for treatment facilities, working with the Ministries of Environment and Industry.

The first assignment produced a nationwide baseline study, benchmarking against international practice, financial analysis and the national masterplan. The second covers detailed technical, environmental and operational assessments, design, technical specifications and bills of quantities for rehabilitating and upgrading treatment facilities, oversight of procurement and installation, and capacity building for facility staff and stakeholders.

Lebanon gains a validated national strategy and a first wave of implementable facilities to separate 60,000 tons a year of highly putrescible waste from the municipal stream.
