Zef Zef Old Dump Closure and Rehabilitation

The Zef Zef old dump in the Wilaya of Skikda carried a long legacy of uncontrolled disposal, with unmanaged leachate and biogas posing continuing environmental risk in northeastern Algeria.

Libanconsult delivered the closure and rehabilitation design in 2007 and supervised the works from 2013 to 2018 under the National Agency for Solid Waste, covering closure design, leachate and biogas engineering, runoff management and site supervision with quality and environmental oversight.

The works capped a 30,500 m2 operational footprint with 33,000 m2 of VLDPE geomembrane, installed leachate extraction and collection, biogas collection and incineration rated at 500 Nm3/h, and 550 lm of HDPE runoff drainage pipe.

Zef Zef was brought under modern environmental standards, ending direct emissions to its surroundings and delivering a lasting rehabilitation for the Wilaya of Skikda.
