Chekka, Batroun and Jbeil Wastewater Plants and Sea Outfalls

Lebanon's post-war reconstruction included a national wastewater investment across its coastal and mountain zones. Five treatment plants went to tender in 2000, and three were subsequently built under Libanconsult supervision for the Council for Development and Reconstruction.

Libanconsult delivered four successive mandates: bid analysis of the five plants at Chekka, Batroun, Jbeil, Chouf and Nabatiyeh (2000), then construction supervision of Chekka (2003-2005), Batroun (2007-2011) and Jbeil (2007-2011), each with its sea outfall.

The three supervised plants are Chekka at 24,000 PE on low-concentration activated sludge, Batroun at 25,000 PE, and Jbeil at 50,000 PE on biofilters. Supervision covered the plants and their sea outfalls, shop drawing approval and technical assistance through to completion.

The three plants brought 99,000 PE of treatment capacity into service on the North Lebanon coast, ending direct discharge from Chekka, Batroun and Jbeil.
