Solar Power for Litani River Basin Water Facilities

The water facilities of the Litani River Basin - across the coastal Tyre district and the Bekaa valley - depend on pumping that became untenable to run under Lebanon's fuel crisis. The Economic and Social Fund for Development and the Council for Development and Reconstruction commissioned a solarisation programme covering eight strategic facilities.

Libanconsult provided design review and full construction supervision across all eight sites under a 24-month contract from 2021, covering review of contractor-submitted design packages, site supervision, testing and commissioning oversight, and contract administration.

Four systems serve the Tyre Union of Municipalities - Chehour (140 kWp), Deir Qanoun Naher (206 kWp), Beflay (140 kWp) and Zebkeen (140 kWp) - and four are in the Bekaa: Iaat Well (250 kWp), Beit Chama Well (250 kWp), Ablah Wastewater Treatment Plant (45 kWp) and Chamsine Spring (850 kWp). Aggregate capacity is 2,021 kWp.

All eight were completed, cutting diesel consumption sharply and restoring stable pumping and treatment to communities across South Lebanon and the Bekaa.
