Solar Power for Water Pumping Stations and Schools
Lebanon's water sector has faced chronic energy shortages since 2019, with fuel costs and power cuts leaving pumping stations unreliable or entirely idle. UNDP mobilised a programme under its Long-Term Agreement for Infrastructure Works to solarise key water supply and school facilities, cutting diesel dependence and restoring service continuity.
Libanconsult delivered the detailed design for ten sites selected by UNDP in 2022, covering site surveys, shading analysis, system sizing, single-line diagrams, structural and civil drawings for panel mounting, specifications and tender documentation for each installation.
The ten systems serve a mix of well pumping stations and school compounds: Barja Well (65 kWp), Kfarmatta Well (120 kWp), Kayfoun Well (75 kWp), Majdel Selem Well (75 kWp), Anjar Well (175 kWp), Hadchit Well (150 kWp), Chaqra Wells & Pumping Station (800 kWp), Alma Chaab Well (75 kWp), Marjeoun School Compound (20 kWp) and Majdel Selel School (10 kWp) - 1,565 kWp in total.
All ten were completed under the LTA, restoring water supply and power to facilities the energy crisis had shut down, on a design template UNDP has since been able to reuse.
