Post-War Water Supply Recovery, Bekaa and North Lebanon

After Lebanon's civil war, the National Emergency Recovery Programme set out to restore essential public services at speed, with water supply to the Bekaa and North Lebanon among the highest priorities. The Council for Development and Reconstruction appointed consultant engineers to the Second and Third Year programmes.

Libanconsult served as Water Supply Consultant Engineer to the CDR from 1996 to 2002, leading management, coordination and supervision of rehabilitation and construction works across both regions.

The works serve approximately 500,000 population equivalent: rehabilitation or construction of 24 boreholes, 52 pumping stations including Chamsine at 2 MW total installed power, 74 chlorination systems, and rehabilitation or extension of four treatment stations with capacities between 12,000 and 40,000 m3/day.

The programme restored and expanded core water infrastructure for half a million people across the Bekaa and North Lebanon at a decisive moment in the country's post-war reconstruction.
