Chouf Wastewater Systems and Treatment Plants

The Chouf region south of Beirut holds some of Lebanon's most historic villages in a landscape of high ecological and cultural value, yet the Menassef, Jisr el Qadi, Deir el Qamar, Beit el Dine and Baaqline zones had no coordinated wastewater system. The Council for Development and Reconstruction commissioned an integrated package covering feasibility through to tender.

Libanconsult delivered both assignments for the CDR: the feasibility study and environmental and social impact assessment (2014-2015), and the detailed engineering design and tender documents (2017-2020) for zones 5-6mB and zone 7.

The design covers two treatment plants - the Serjbal biofilter plant at 92,250 PE and the Deir Baba plant at 26,250 PE, both to a 2050 horizon - together with the associated sewer networks across the Chouf villages, with alignments and siting chosen to limit impact on the region's cultural and natural heritage.

The package gave the CDR a tender-ready programme to serve more than 118,000 population equivalent across the heart of the Chouf.
