Mseilha Dam

The Mseilha Dam on the Nahr El Jaouz is among the most significant Lebanese water infrastructure projects of the 2010s, built to secure drinking water for the Batroun region.

Libanconsult was lead consultant across the full lifecycle: complete design of the dam (2004-2008) for the Ministry of Energy and Water, the Environmental Impact Assessment (2016-2018) for the Ministry of Environment, construction supervision of the dam (2014-2021) and construction supervision of the associated water treatment plant (2019-2020).

The dam is a rockfill structure with a clay core, 35 m high and 400 m long, impounding 6 to 7.5 Mm3 of drinking water. Ancillary works include a spillway sized for 800 m3/s, a multi-level water intake and outlet structures. The downstream water treatment plant is rated at 30,000 m3/day and supplies Batroun and its surrounding areas. The EIA delivered the environmental baseline, impact assessment, mitigation plan and dam break analysis required under Lebanese law.

Mseilha supplies drinking water to Batroun and its coastal villages through 30,000 m3/day of treatment capacity fed from 6 to 7.5 Mm3 of storage.
