Ain El Mreisseh Manara Port

The Ain El Mreisseh Manara seafront is one of Beirut's most visible stretches of coast, beside the Manara lighthouse. Local fishermen needed a compact, sheltered port in a constrained and highly exposed urban setting.

Libanconsult delivered the design of the port for the Ministry of Public Works and Transport between 2009 and 2014, together with a dedicated coastal-protection design in 2011.

The port comprises a 185 m main breakwater at 11 m depth protected with 16 m3 Accropode units and armour, quay structures, jetties and ancillary buildings. The coastal-protection design added a 50 m breakwater extension at up to 9 m depth, also in 16 m3 Accropode armour, to improve wave shelter on the approach.

The port gives Beirut's traditional fishing community safer berthing and workable operating conditions on an exposed and sensitive urban shoreline.
