Al-Qalamoun Port

Al-Qalamoun, a coastal town north of Tripoli, needed safer berthing and more capacity for its fishing community. The Ministry of Public Works and Transport developed the port in two stages, seventeen years apart.

Libanconsult designed and supervised the original port between 1996 and 2000, and returned in 2013-2014 to design and supervise a breakwater extension and capacity upgrade at the same site.

The first stage delivered a 311 m main breakwater at 5 m depth with armour protection, together with quay, jetties, buildings and ancillary works. The second added a 60 m breakwater extension with rock protection at 5 m depth, and upgraded the quay, jetties, buildings and ancillary infrastructure.

Al-Qalamoun now has a fully sheltered, expanded port, delivered by the same consultant across both stages of its development.
