Saida Commercial Port

Saida, Lebanon's third-largest city, needed a commercial port to expand trade capacity and anchor regional logistics on the southern Mediterranean coast. The Ministry of Public Works and Transport and the Council for Development and Reconstruction procured the scheme in successive phases.

Libanconsult has been lead consultant across the full life cycle: infrastructure and sea-bed design for the port of Saida (from 1995), design of the commercial port (2010-2011), 3D physical modelling at the Laboratory of Marine Studies in Algiers (2012-2013), Phase 1 construction supervision (2012-2016), the Phase 2 feasibility study (2017-2018) and Phase 2 construction supervision, ongoing since 2018.

Phase 1 delivered a 1 km main breakwater with 16 m3 Accropode protection at 14 m depth, a 200 m secondary breakwater with rock protection, and a 150 m quay at 10 m free depth (14 m excavation) built with underwater concrete blocks and a reinforced concrete superstructure, together with buildings and ancillary works. Phase 2 adds a 175 m quay at 10 m free depth (15 m excavation), a platform behind the quay wall, and further breakwater, dredging and port building works.

Saida now has a modern commercial port designed and validated through physical modelling, delivered by a single Libanconsult team covering marine, civil, structural, electrical, mechanical and environmental disciplines from first design through construction.
