Al Ashkarah Fishery Harbour Sedimentation Works

Al Ashkarah Fishery Harbour suffers chronic sedimentation that obstructs navigation and daily operation. The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries Wealth and Water Resources procured a Design-and-Build contract to mitigate it permanently, and retained Libanconsult as lead member of a joint venture with Atlas.

Libanconsult reviews the contractor's detailed design, shop drawings and materials, and supervises construction - covering project management and reporting, contract administration, inspections and testing, payment and completion certification, and post-construction and maintenance-period support.

The contractor's scope covers topographic, bathymetric, geotechnical and oceanographic surveys, mathematical and physical modelling, and permanent sedimentation-mitigation works including modifications to breakwaters, groynes and sediment traps, alongside dredging, reclamation and installation of navigational aids.

Phase 1 targets at least five years of sediment-free operation, restoring reliable navigational access for the harbour's fishing fleet.
