Batroun Marine School Coastal Protection

The Marine School at Batroun sits on an exposed seafront, and its training infrastructure needed dedicated coastal protection to stay operable in the local wave climate.

Libanconsult delivered the design and supervision assignment for the Ministry of Public Works and Transport in 2011-2012, followed by a further protection-design assignment in 2014-2015.

The first stage comprises a 200 m main breakwater at 7 m depth protected with 16 m3 Accropode units, together with quay, jetty, buildings, dredging and ancillary works. The second added topographic and bathymetric surveys, MIKE 21 numerical modelling, physical modelling at the Laboratory of Marine Studies in Algiers, preliminary and detailed design, execution drawings and tender documents.

The school's seafront is protected by a scheme validated in both numerical and physical models before construction.
