Nahr El Kalb / Holiday Beach Sand Dredging

The coastline at Nahr El Kalb and Holiday Beach north of Beirut accretes sand persistently, restricting marina operations, coastal access and navigation, and requiring periodic dredging.

Libanconsult has delivered successive design and supervision assignments for the Ministry of Public Works and Transport: supervision of dredging in 2011, design of further dredging in 2013, and a second supervision assignment extending into 2018.

The 2011 campaign dredged 130,000 m3 of sand across 16 areas to levels between -5.00 m and -2.00 m, inside and at the entrance of the Holiday Beach marina, between the breakwaters and in adjoining zones. The 2013 design covered 160,000 m3 across 10 areas to levels between -5.00 m and -3.00 m.

Nearly 300,000 m3 of accreted sand has been designed or supervised out of the marina and its approaches, holding navigable depths across seven years.
